Joseph awakens from a vivid dream that leaves him deeply unsettled. Before he has time to process it, he rushes to begin his first day as a security guard, unaware that an enigmatic entity with glowing yellow eyes witnessed his dream and has begun silently stalking him.

A world without dreams

In this world, dreaming has become a forgotten phenomenon. The few people still capable of dreaming are known as dreamers — rare individuals whose dreams are followed by violent and unpredictable behaviour.

Joseph knows something no one else does: he is a dreamer himself. Knowing what discovery could mean, he keeps his condition hidden.

Saint Matris Prison

Elsewhere, at Saint Matris Prison, Warden Sarah Maddox prepares for the transfer of dangerous inmate Silvia Warrenhouse.

Sarah has become increasingly paranoid after uncovering evidence of a conspiracy involving the imprisonment and exploitation of the world's remaining dreamers. Her fears prove justified when Warden Bowman and his superior begin discussing how to eliminate her before she can expose their operation.

Suspecting corruption has spread throughout her own institution, Sarah requests additional officers to assist with Silvia's transfer. Every request is denied.

An unlikely partner

Joseph is mistakenly sent to the wrong prison wing on his first day and unexpectedly crosses paths with Sarah.

With no one else she trusts, Sarah recruits the inexperienced guard to accompany her on the transfer. During their journey, Joseph is introduced to the history of dreamers and the danger surrounding them.

While reviewing Silvia Warrenhouse's file, he discovers references to a mysterious recurring figure known as the Treeguy — an entity that repeatedly appears in Silvia's dreams, promising that one day he will come to her aid.

The trap

As Sarah and Joseph arrive at Bowman's prison, they unknowingly step into a carefully orchestrated trap.

Bowman has arranged the transfer as part of his plan to silence Sarah. Silvia, meanwhile, remains strangely calm, convinced that the encounter foretold in her dreams is finally approaching.

With Joseph hiding his own identity as a dreamer, Sarah fighting to expose a conspiracy, and unseen forces closing in around them, their fates become increasingly tied to the mysterious figure known as the Treeguy.
